It’s become a tradition at Mercedes-Benz of Stockport, whereby November becomes Movember as members of the Sales team grow some stylish face furniture in the name of Men’s Health awareness.
The Movember Agenda is to raise money for Men’s mental health and other health issues such as testicular cancer which are two of the biggest killers of young men.
Rick Marland put a team together to grow “interesting” facial hair where the only limit is your own imagination and this year, the team consisted of captain Rick, vice captain Marcus Caruso plus Mark Davies and Darren Halsall who all shaved clean on Halloween, ready for the 1st November. The 4 gent’s persevered until the end of the month with one handlebar tache and a faithful recreation of Errol Flynn’s pencil masterpiece by Marcus!
After hitting £275 in 2018, the team this year set their target at £300, and after a couple of weeks it looked like the team may fall short but they already had some tricks up their sleeve to boost the fund.
With sponsorship from family, friends and many peers within the business, plus a dress-down day and fundraising auction on the 29th November, the team hit £300 with relative ease and eventually reached heady heights of £732.
Rick commented “It’s great to be able to contribute to this fantastic fundraiser, as I lost a friend to suicide due to an undiagnosed mental health issue. If one life is saved thanks to our efforts at Stockport, our job is done!” Marcus agreed, saying “I’m proud to be a part of the team here at Stockport, and we made a great effort to get involved in this worthy cause!”
Both Mark and Darren said “We need to do it again next year and beat this year!
The team are already working on next year’s fundraiser where they hope to recruit more people to the team and hit at least £1000, and with some ideas about some kind of sponsored event outside working time to boost the funds of this worthy charity, you’d be a fool to bet against them!
