The Mercedes-Benz A-Class family is set to grow. The stunning hatchback is set to gain a sibling in saloon form in 2019. The four door saloon will be based on a wheelbase of 2,729 millimetres with short overhangs at both the front and the rear with Mercedes stating it will be the most aerodynamically efficient car on the market.
The saloon version also boasts a larger boot than the hatchback. With 420 litres of luggage space available, the introduction of the new boot section has increased capacity by 50 litres.
The A-Class Saloon will be built in Aguascalientes, Mexico and Rastatt, Germany having been developed in Sindelfingen, Germany and will be presented for the first time at the Paris Motor Show between the 4th-14th October.
Mercedes A-Class Saloon Design
From the exterior the new saloon matches the styling of its hatchback counterpart right up the C-Pillar, however, this is where everything changes. The roof top slopes away to allow space for the new boot. The new shape rear end also means an adaptation to the lights, so the rear of the A-Class saloon gets a bold set of light clusters with a Y-shaped LED light signature that rests above a set of air vents.
Mercedes A-Class Saloon Engines
Mercedes-Benz have offered two engine variants from launch: one petrol, one diesel. The A 200 will be the petrol option and boasts a 1.3 litre turbo unit that combines power with efficiency. Producing 161bhp and 250 Nm of torque, the A 200 still manages to deliver 54.3 mpg! The diesel unit is even more efficient reaching 71mpg and delivering 114bhp and 260Nm of torque.
The new A-Class is the first model to feature the revolutionary new MBUX – Mercedes-Benz User Experience – multimedia system, so it will be fitted in the new saloon. The system is perfectly adaptable to the user and creates a unique connection with you, to get the most out of your driving experience.
There is yet to be an official announcement on the pricing structure of the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class Saloon but we’re expecting it to be priced just above the hatchback version with an estimated start price of £25,800.
